Pomegranates are currently the king of communist fruits because Xi likes them, but apples are a good old red standard, too.

The backbreaking work of picking apples is joyful and always brings a fulsome smile to the faces of those paid low wages to pick them.

Luscious grapes, though not necessarily red, represent the pacification of Xinjiang and thus also get lauded in the news.

A curious thing is happening on the US-China relations front. Is it a gift-horse or a panda hug for those dreamy-eyed American idealists who forgot what it was like to be liked by China? It seems to work, because Americans like to be liked by China.

Nothing like a letter from Xi to startle and jumpstart those deeply frustrated and repressed emotions of everlasting friendship and self-validation.

The outpouring of paeans to friendship in this sister city report is reminiscent of the staged “Friendship Tours” of the 1970’s when going to China was “special” because it was so anti-foreign and closed to the world.

Can you imagine getting a letter from Xi Jinping?

Between ruling a billion people, writing several books a month, and reading classics in his booklined study, it’s amazing he has time to pen letters but he does and it’s really special. Look at the smile it brought to this American woman’s face!

Can the spirit of ping pong and pandas be far behind?

Well, yes and no.

The Washington DC friendship pandas have been repatriated to China.

It’s not just Americans who are treated in a patronizing way by the CCP. The entire nation is captive to the CCP’s dubious charm, as can be seen in the latest “educational” push to inculcate Xi Jinping Thought and conformity with same.

Gaza remains fixed in China’s gaze as the big story of the day. Again a series of shots showing Israel on the offensive, some rocket trails of Hamas firing back and general confusion and alarm at Al Shifa hospital, which is used as a symbol for civilian suffering; here shown to be struggling with a power outage.

(CCTV does not mention Israeli reports that Al Shifa is infiltrated by Hamas operatives and is likely to serve as cover for the subterranean Hamas HQ bristling with weapons of war.)
