As Xi votes, so votes the rubber-stamp congress and so goes China, in keeping with the lofty representational spirit of “whole-process democracy”
Zhao Leji gives a tremulous readout as the historic congress is about to close.
It’s been an amazing and invigorating exercise in people’s democracy!
Even the handful of foreigners invited to attend the closing ceremony seem speechless and suitably impressed.
Hats off to the Chinese military for having Xi’s back every step along the way.

Another book by Xi! The latest book news is about the English translation of Selected Readings from the Works of Xi Jinping. It’s newsy enough to interrupt this program with a thinly veiled editorial endorsement flouting the new tome. China’s innovative “whole-process democracy” is fully on display under the lights and before the cameras as selective attendees of the meeting are trotted before the press to say a few scripted words. (no questions, please)
Minorities are especially well-represented on this glorious day.
But it’s not just China’s minorities who sing praise of Xi and the CCP, is it?
Foreign ladies do it, too, in a big score for gender equality along the Belt and Road. These lovely random women reporters from Russia, Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon and Czechia were wowed and overwhelmed by the big show in Beijing.
A win-win for journalism and the mass line, not to mention feminism.
