It’s hard to disagree with the sentiment that war is not the answer, but CCTV lacks the credibility to amplify such a claim. On the one hand, they have studiously ignored Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine and the ensuing Russian war on Ukraine soil for well over a year now, on the other hand, they keep accusing NATO and the US of having the potential for war, in the abstract, which seems to bother the editors a great deal more than the actual war that ally Russia is inflicting on Ukraine with hundreds of thousands dead already.
For four days running, Xinwen Lianbo has run footage recorded by CCTV’s Japan crew in Hiroshima, not of the G7 summit, which was broadly condemned and then assiduously blacked out from news coverage, but the reaction to the summit in the form of a few sparsely attended anti-G7 street demonstrations.
