CCTV FOLLIES 6.27 THE TIDE ALSO RISES
"As the tide rises in the south of the sea, Hainan is steadily advancing the construction of a free trade port and accelerating high-level opening up to the outside world on a new journey!"
“As the tide rises in the south of the sea, Hainan is steadily advancing the construction of a free trade port and accelerating high-level opening up to the outside world on a new journey!"
That’s what the closing narration says, and it provocatively includes a photo of hotly contested islets in the Sansha group of which Xisha, Nansha and Zhongsha are part.
Other people in other places call them the Paracel Islands.
Rising tide is a nice touch. It is worth noting that there’s been nothing about rising tensions “in the south of the sea”, least of all China’s shocking piratical coast guard attack on a Philippine vessel.
Meanwhile, the “big” news of the day is carefully buried in the middle section near the end of a tedious propaganda piece about how the CCP is directing flood clean-up in the south. Addressing a “clean up” of a different kind, the anchors take turns delivering the not trivial news that two former defense ministers, Li Shangfu and He Weifeng, have been thrust into the dustbin of history.
Already stripped of their military posts, they have now been expelled from the party as they are under investigation for serious crimes that go against Xi’s vision of the CCP’s “original mission.”
If you are on the right side of Xi, you can do no wrong. If you get on the wrong side of Xi, it’s called “corruption.”
But the real BIG news of the day is Xi, always Xi, and forever Xi.
Xi comes on the air so often, he comes in different flavors, shapes and sizes. Xi images are lovingly culled from CCTV’s massive archive of Xi’s mostly recent appearances that illustrate the brilliance and vision of Xi leading China into Xi-style socialism as the nation travels on Xi’s New Journey in Xi’s New Era (with Xi characteristics.) The first set of personality cult photos is from today’s news, followed by a round of the top Xi shots from yesterday’s news.
Xi Jinping says: “Over the past 40 years, Jingning County has achieved gratifying results in ethnic unity and characteristic development, and the lives of people of all ethnic groups are becoming more and more prosperous which makes me very happy.”
Xi Jinping emphasized that on the new journey, he hopes that cadres and people of all ethnic groups in the county will conscientiously implement the decisions and arrangements of the Party Central Committee.
Xi has small hands but that doesn’t stop him from meddling in things.
“Xi Jinping conducted a series of important discussions”
In other news, the People’s Daily announced:
“Give full play to the advantages of the new national system - on studying and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches.”
And finally, a story on telling Xi’s story of telling China’s story well…
"The Story of the Communist Party of China - The Practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in Xiong'an" is the topic of discussion at a special promotional meeting.
Foreign guests attended…
Xi’s model city Xiong’an—the place where dreams take off!
“Foreign guests attending the meeting said that Xiongan New Area is a successful practice of Chinese-style modernization and reflects the foresight of the Communist Party of China.”
CCTV: “They hope to deepen exchanges of experience in state governance with the Communist Party of China and work together to build a better world.”
CCTV interviews one invited guest, who happens to be a “Xizangolist” by trade:
“Xiong’an provides an example of how cities will be built in the future…”
And in closing, a reminder of the important annoucement made at the top of the hour:
The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting on June 27 to discuss further deepening reform and promoting Chinese-style modernization. Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting.
The meeting decided that the Third Plenary Meeting of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China will be held in Beijing from July 15 to 18.
This text that follows is about meeting at which the announcement about another meeting was made. Bereft of illustration, the lengthy text is read out loud and monopolizes the screen for a gripping five minutes, but this teaser will have to suffice.
