The Chinese Communist Party was, at least by Mao’s poetic reckoning, founded to serve the people, but the be-all and end-all of the party has become to serve itself and probably always was. Like any powerful bureaucracy, it stakes self-aggrandizement and self-preservation over any “original mission.” This is what China has become, a support mechanism for a parasitic party where the nation is made to serve the party instead of the other way around. On quiet news days like today, when paramount leader Xi Jinping is not in front of the cameras, CCTV finds ways to fill the Xi vacuum. On this ho-hum day of June 30, it doesn’t have to dig very deep into its deep Xi archives to find pictures that glorify the man and his mission. He’s everywhere!
