CCTV’s Evening News sometimes pretends to be neutral, it’s a news program after all, but it has stylistically constrained manners and its robotic announcers are sticklers for protocol, so it puts its choicest, juiciest criticism in the mouths of others.

You’ll hear all about the evils of US hegemony, US ruination of the world economy, US profiteering on weapons sales, and calls for US to quit Asia, and get out of Europe, too, but it’s at its best when culled from CCTV vast global network of sock-puppets. Supporting comments are made officials from nations indebted to China, officials from nations afraid of China, various opportunitistic schemers, paid propagandists and other rather more innocent and inadvertent sources, such as anti-US demonstrators wherever and whenever they should happen to appear.
