CCTV FOLLIES 7.31 A hard rain falls on Beijing
CCTV plays down calamity in China to the same degree it plays up calamity elsewhere -Rains heavy but everything under control -Xi replenishes ranks of rocket force rocked by scandal -PLA flexes might!
It’s raining hard in and around Beijing but everything is under control at this emergency control center where relevant officials can be seen in action meetings.
Beijing streets are shown to be very wet, but no signs of dramatic flooding. Assistance is being relayed, citizens at risk have been successfully evacuated and things are quickly returning to normal although some inconveniences have presented themselves.
“It is crucial for the public to pay close attention to weather updates and stay away from areas with a higher risk of meteorological hazards, the center warned. Authorities have also advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel and outdoor activities during this period.”
The scenes of gurgling water below are as graphic as it gets on Xinwen Lianbo’s tidied-up flood coverage. Some close-ups on turbulent water but no reports of casualties, no signs of flooded buildings, no cars being swept away. Needless to say there was no official negligence and the party is firmly in command of the situation.
Xinhua has a truly upbeat report on the shocking floods in Beijing (A real whitewash!)
“Xi Jinping, chairman of the Central Military Commission presented certificates of order to promote the commander of the Rocket Force Wang Houbin and its political commissar Xu Xisheng to the rank of general, the highest rank in the military.
General Zhang Youxia, a vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, read the promotion orders at a ceremony at the commission's headquarters in Beijing. Xi congratulated the promoted officers, who were lieutenant generals, and took a picture with them.”
The PLA Rocket Force is in charge of managing and operating the nation's ballistic and cruise missiles and is believed to be one of the world's largest missile forces. It also is thought to supervise China’s space program.
The PLA rocket force, recently depleted by death and demotion during an in-depth investigation looking for traitors has wasted no time replenishing its tainted leadership ranks with Xi-appointed loyalists. Overseas Chinese political analysts have found possible links between dismissal of Qin Gang and an espionage case involving the PLA rocket force.
Podcaster “Lei’s Real Talk” linked, with a certain logic but certainly no proof, the purge in the rocket forces to an apparent suicide and the selling of PLA secrets to US intelligence on Qin Gang’s watch. While it is highly speculative, this photo of a sign warning traitors will be executed at the front gate of the hospital serving the rocket force in downtown Beijing suggests some serious worries are afoot.
(Thanks to a sharp-eyed reader who pointed out that some of these warning signs have been around for a while.)
The entire armed forces are urged to thoroughly study in earnest some important remarks made by Chairman Xi.
Waxing poetic: testimonials to the brilliant military leadership of Xi Jinping…
“Xi said he is pleased to learn about the progress the company has achieved and expressed the hope that the paratroopers remain committed to their mission, honor their fine tradition, boost their courage, sharpen their skills and make new contributions to the Party and the people.”
The PLA struts its stuff on land, air and sea.
There are routine reasons for all the military flexing, such as upcoming PLA day, but this is excessive even on Xinwen Lianbo standards, suggesting that worries have wormed their way into Xi’s relationship with the military.
