CCTV FOLLIES 8.10 No news of Xi !!!

Xi has been AWOL since floods -Xi coverage minimized -None of usual personality cult PR -No Xi quotes -No pro-Xi Vox Populi -No new news of Xi -Party in command -Remembering Pemba!

The top story is propaganda, how can it not be, this is CCTV, but it is inert canned material promoting the party’s plan to make China green and modern at high speed.

This canned segment used to illustrate China’s effort to go green contains the only shots of Xi in the day’s news. It’s straight out of the archives, and not embellished or emphasized. More pro-forma than informative, it doesn’t say anything, but perhaps acts as a placeholder in the top news slot for when the hidden leader does reappear.

One imagines CCTV viewers would be subject to severe withdrawal symptoms if the ubiquitous one were to drop from the news cycle altogether, so here’s a small dose:

That’s it. Perhaps more striking, none of the Vox Populi segments in the day’s news start out with the tiresome “As Xi Jinping says…” or even mention Xi. No one quotes Xi, or references his provident wisdom in any way. They talk about other things.

It’s still propaganda, but it’s propaganda without the personality cult.
