It's a bitter irony for all Americans that a republic founded in opposition to tariffs imposed by the distant Mad King George should find itself under the thrall of its own mad king of tariffs.
The world order as we know it is rapidly unraveling and things we long took for granted are starting to fall apart. The disruption is as hard to ignore as it is deliberate. Every day, every hour, indeed, sometimes every minute, news items cross the screen confirming that the world order as we have come to know it—fair, unfair, in need of reform, vulnerable and delicately balanced—is crumbling at warp speed.
The key source of the perturbations can be traced to the irrational provocations of one man, a man not known for being either nice or long-sighted. Many Americans distrust Trump, it could very well be a majority opinion, but the election was lost and by the rules of the game there’s not much the man in the street can do about it.
